The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), participated in the World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Philippines on November 24, 2025, at Novotel Manila Araneta City.
Representatives from Fisheries Postharvest Research and Development Division (FPHRDD) and Aquaculture Research and Development Division (ARDD) attended the activity, underscoring NFRDI’s continued commitment to addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
With the theme “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future,” this year’s WAAW highlighted the urgent need for coordinated, cross-sectoral action to tackle AMR, an escalating global challenge affecting public health, food systems, ecosystems, and economies.
As AMR increasingly impacts aquatic environments and production systems, NFRDI reaffirms its dedication to advancing science-based research and promoting responsible practices to mitigate AMR risks. Through ongoing initiatives and collaboration with national and international partners, the Institute aims to support sustainable fisheries and ensure the country remains aligned with global efforts to safeguard food security and public health. ### (Kishiro Leyritana)
