The Department of Agriculture–National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (DA-NFRDI) presented its key accomplishments and best practices for the first half of 2025 during the DA’s Extension Support, Education, and Training (DA-ESET) Midyear Performance Review held on August 27–29, 2025, at the Rural Development Education Center (RDEC), ATI Compound, Quezon City.

Representing NFRDI, Training Section Chief Cyrenes Moncawe reported the agency’s achievements in training as well as in the development and dissemination of information, education, and communication (IEC) materials.

From January to June 2025, NFRDI trained 853 participants through 10 specialized programs, including 30 fisheries professionals who earned Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. The agency also produced 19 new IEC materials and distributed over 2,000 copies nationwide, broadening the reach of science-based fisheries knowledge.

Among its best practices, NFRDI highlighted its CPD provider accreditation, expanded IEC dissemination through social media, and stronger collaborations with government, academe, and civil society. It also advanced institutional knowledge management and e-learning initiatives with DA-Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), paving the way for more accessible fisheries training and information sharing.

The DA-ESET is a program that harmonizes the DA’s extension services by providing capacity-building, knowledge transfer, and training for farmers, fishers, and other stakeholders through modalities such as farmer field schools, training of trainers, and IEC dissemination. It is led by ATI as the focal agency, under the leadership of Director Remelyn Recoter, who chairs the DA-ESET Technical Management Team.

The DA-ESET midyear review brought together DA agencies to assess first-semester progress, address challenges, and synchronize programs for the remainder of 2025. ### (Cyrenes Moncawe)
