Dr. Mudjekeewis Santos, Scientist V and Chief of Training Division, served as a resource speaker during the “Tapping and Reaching Academic Institutions for National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Membership (TRAIN)” organized by the NRCP and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region VI on August 26-31, 2024 in Roxas City, Capiz.
During his online presentation entitled “Triple A-PH: Artificial intelligence Aquaculture Applications in the Philippines”, he elaborated on the foundational concepts of artificial intelligence (AI) and highlighted its broad opportunities to boost aquaculture development in the country. Dr. Santos emphasized the potential of integrating AI in aquaculture sector which can significantly enhance its productivity, sustainability, and overall efficiency, contributing to the growth of this vital industry in the Philippines.
Some of the AI-assisted technologies highlighted in the presentation were: – Milkfish automatic fry counter by Prof. Valeriano Corre, Jr. – crabifier or crab identifier by Chona Camille VinceCruz-Abeledo – aquaculture suitability assessment and mapping by Rollan Geronimo and Mudjekeewis Santos
