Staff from the DA-National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) participated in a “Capacity-Building Workshop on Harvest Strategy (HS) and Harvest Control Rules (HCRs)/Fishery Management Plan (FMP) Development for FishCoRe Project in Fisheries Management Areas (FMAs)” on February 19-22, 2024 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Attending the workshop were Francisco Torres, Jr., Nicko Amor Flores, Renalyne Acosta, and Noimie Rose Dicdiquin of the Capture Fisheries Research and Development Division (CFRDD); and Ronnie Romero of the Planning, Policy and Information Division (PPID).

The capacity-building workshop aimed to equip key stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively manage fishing capacity within the FishCore project FMAs.

Specifically, participants gained an understanding of HS and HCRs, two critical frameworks for ensuring sustainable fishing practices. Through interactive sessions and expert guidance, they learned how to utilize data from the National Stock Assessment Program (NSAP) to inform sound decision-making and implement effective fishing capacity management strategies.

The program targeted a specific group of individuals crucial to fisheries management, namely, FMA focals, NSAP project leaders, and Fisheries and Coastal Resilient Resource Planning and Management (FishCRRM) component of the FishCore project, including technical support staff for FMAs 6 and 9. ### (Nicko Amor Flores)
