The Department of Agriculture-National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (DA-NFRDI) was bestowed the “Outstanding Stakeholder’s Award” by the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) in recognition of its untiring support and contribution to the advancement of the regiment’s aquaculture transformation path.

Dr. Lilian Garcia, NFRDI executive director, accepted the award during the 72nd founding anniversary of FSRR on November 25, 2022 in Camp Tecson, San Miguel, Bulacan.

Gracing the event was defense undersecretary, Jose Faustino Jr. who served as guest of honor and speaker. Also present were NFRDI staff led by Dr. Joseph Christopher Rayos, chief of the Aquaculture Research and Development Division, with Evalyn Jabaan and Niko Macaraeg.

On June 16, 2021, NFRDI, in collaboration with the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 3, launched the “Aqua-negosyo at Turismo para sa mga Sundalo” livelihood project. It aimed to benefit FSRR and Wounded Soldiers Agriculture Cooperative (WSAC) in Camp Tecson.

The five-year project addresses the problem of food inflation, local tourism, and income generation through technology transfer and commercialization of selected species and technologies in aquaculture. More importantly, to honor and appreciate the bravery and unselfish service of wounded soldiers who fought for the country. ### (Niko Macaraeg)
