Pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 316 on September 14, 2017, declaring every ninth month of the year as “Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month” or MANA Mo, the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute will conduct several activities to ensure that values related to this will be instilled among the fisheries stakeholders and the general public alike.

In this regard, a digital drawing contest will be conducted by DA-NFRDI for young people, especially elementary and junior high school students, to know how they deal with the issues of conservation in mind and their take on the future of fisheries. This will help promote awareness for them on how their actions could help conserve our oceans and the species that live in them. In addition, their artwork may feature steps into creating a more sustainable future.

Qualification. The contest is open for elementary (Grade 3 to 6) and junior high school (Grade 7-10) students.

Registration. The parent/guardian may register on behalf of the participant by scanning the QR code found on the announcement or through this link: bit.ly/NFRDIDigitalDrawingReg . The parent/guardian who signs up for the participant must take note of the Statement of Consent clause and the Statement of Originality. By clicking the “Submit” button on the registration form, they agree to the statements and will not hold DA-NFRDI of any responsibility for the student’s participation. A Zoom link for the program and contest will be sent to the registered email address.

Software/application to be used. The participants will use Microsoft Paint to do their digital artworks.

Opening program and contest proper. Participants will be required to attend the entire program through the Zoom link sent during registration. For the actual drawing contest, the participants’ entries should be based on the theme: Rising/Changing Tides: The Future of Our Oceans and Seas SAGIP: Saving Our Seas (SOS). The program will be broadcasted via FB live. The drawing contest proper, conducted in one hour, will be right after the opening program.

Submission of entries. After the drawing contest, the parent/guardian must assist the participants in submitting their outputs through Google Drive in JPEG/PNG format with the following details: name, grade level, title of the artwork, and artwork description. The deadline of submission is October 2, 2021 11:00 AM. The facilitators will collate and post the entries (1 album for elementary entries and 1 album for JHS entries) online thru FB for popularity rating.

Judging. The popularity rating will be based on the number of reactions (like, heart, and wow) and shares garnered by each entry. One reaction or share is equivalent to 1 point for the participant. This will be done on a limited time only (until October 4, 2021, 12:00 NN) for the facilitators to have enough time for tallying of points. Aside from the popularity rating, the artworks will be judged by selected Division and Center Chiefs of NFRDI. Total points earned from the FB reactions and shares (50%) plus the combined ratings from the NFRDI judges (50%) will be tallied and presented to the panel of judges for verification and approval. Entries with the highest points will be ranked accordingly and declared as first, second, and third prize winners, respectively.

Awarding of prizes. The winners will be notified through the contact details (email and contact number) they provided during the registration process. They should receive an official congratulatory letter stating their placement in the competition. Aside from the congratulatory letter, their name, entry, and school name will be posted in the official Facebook announcement of NFRDI Philippines. Any personal information collected will be used solely for the conduct of the MANA MO Digital Drawing Contest. The following are the prizes for the contest:
First prize: Php 10,000.00
