The DA-NFRDI, in partnership with BFAR Region IV-A and collaboration with Villar Sipag Foundation, successfully conducted an online Training on Tilapia Culture and Processing Technologies last April 27-28, 2021, in support of the Department of Agriculture’s move to sustain food security in the country amid COVID-19 pandemic. The training was mainly participated by invited fisherfolks of the Villar SIPAG Foundation hosted via Zoom. In addition, a live stream of the program was shown via NFRDI’s Facebook page so that interested participants who were not able to participate via Zoom can view and join the live discussions. Topics discussed included an overview of the tilapia industry, breeding and culture of tilapia, aqua business, extruded floating feeds, organic feed formulation, aquaponics, and tilanggit processing. Resource speakers included aquaculture experts from NFRDI, BFAR-NFFTC, and BFAR-4A, such as Dr. Joseph Christopher Rayos, Mr. Frederick Muyot, Ms. Jodecel Danting, Ms. Lilibeth Afan, Ms. Evelyn Zafra, Mr. Zaldy Hechanova, and Ms. Marilou Mosqueda.
