The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute commemorates its 2nd Anniversary on February 15, 2021.
The celebration started with a virtual Flag Ceremony where Dr. Lilian C. Garcia, CESO V, NFRDI’s Acting Executive Director, wished everyone a blissful anniversary and proceeded in introducing the Institute’s guest of honor, USec. Cheryl Marie Caballero, DA Undersecretary for Agri-Industrialization and for Fisheries.
In her speech, the undersecretary recognized the important role of NFRDI in the fisheries industry. She also added that with everyone’s effort and capability, the institute will be able to build productivity and enhance the resiliency of the agriculture and fisheries sector. The 15 winners of the NFRDI Trivia Quiz online game was announced by Ms. Cyrenes Moncawe before the end of the flag ceremony. This online quiz was dubbed “#NFRDITriviaTime” to bring NFRDI closer to its external stakeholders by encouraging them to be a part of our anniversary celebration through our social media platform. The questions were about NFRDI’s mandate, functions, and other fun trivia related to NFRDI divisions and centers.
A virtual mass followed, officiated by Rev. Fr. Engelbert Elarmo. In his homily, he emphasized that even if we may not receive the wonders we seek, what God provides is something better. Fr. Elarmo ended the mass with a prayer of blessing.
By lunchtime, a tribute for a retiring employee, Ms. Ludivina Labe of the Capture Fisheries Research and Development Division (CFRDD) was held, hosted by Ms. Raziel Ares and Mr. Jeremy Desales. A montage and video greetings were prepared for the retiree after the brief messages from Dir. Garcia and Ms. Flordeliza Cambia, the president of the NFRDI Senior Citizens. Ms. Elsa F. Furio, Chief of the CFRDD, awarded Ms. Labe certificate and token. Ms. Labe expressed her gratitude to everyone she worked with and all who were behind the retirement party. (KJSUlep, CMMoncawe)
