Every November 25 to December 12, the NFRDI annually observes the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (eVAW) to raise awareness among employees and stakeholders that it is an issue that needs to be addressed by everyone, which echoes the five-year theme: “VAW-free community starts with me.”

This year, despite the enforced quarantine due to pandemic, the NFRDI supported the Philippine Commission on Women’s activities by turning its icon and lighting its hallways with orange. The institute had also posted a video message of support for the campaign and shared PCW’s social media posts.

An essay writing contest was held to entice the employees to strive to know more about the campaign. Entries were subjected to blind judgment by the GAD Focal Point System Members, the result of which was announced during the Recognition Day of the institute last December 18, 2021. Winning the first prize of PHP 5,000.00 for his article entitled “VAW Free Comm(U)nity, It Starts with U” is Mr. MJ Sano, second prize of PHP 3,000.00 was bagged by the author of the article “BOYCE,” Mr. Francisco Egway, Jr., while Ms. Kathlene Cleah Benitez won PHP 1,000.00 for her essay “VAW-free Community Starts with Me.” These articles shall be published in the NFRDI’s official newsletter: FiSearch.
